In a privileged location in the centre of the city two structures which are perceived as one coherent body appear to hover dazzling over a transparent ground floor zone. This quarter has become the interface between the historical centre and the city park which borders on the base of the fortifications. A bridge to the historical park opens up a new transit axis. Integration in the city and the square is via the striking contour and the unique materiality of the buildings. Upwardly, the shape of the buildings dissolves into rib-shaped sections and the contours of the roofscape correspond to the historic buildings in the direct vicinity. Diagonally across from the Stadtpark, the living quarters are oriented towards their own free spaces between the buildings and consciously avoid direct eye contact with the visitors to the Stadtpark. This city district has become a new address offering a complex alternation between private and public areas. The entire ground floor area becomes public space while the upper floors are reserved for private use. The quality of light in the residential units is high as are the views. Sufficient space between the buildings ensures privacy on the south-facing terraces. This urban feeling is reinforced by the semi-public outdoor areas between the rib-shaped residential quarters. The structure is encased in folded perforated steel plates of varying degrees of transparency. This three-dimensional façade acts as a design feature unifying different uses. It combines closed, transparent or open states into a uniform, dazzling appearance.
